How Handicaps Are Set
Handicaps are based on a player's league level and past competition success, with the aim of making matches fairer across all abilities. The higher your handicap, the more games you’ve won or the higher level you play at, so you'll give a head start to your opponent.
β Handicap Points Breakdown:
- A Team regular – 3 points
- B Team regular – 1 point
- Won a singles competition (last 3 years) – 3 points
- Won a pairs competition (last 3 years) – 1 point
Add the relevant points together to get each player’s handicap.
β Head Start Calculation:
In each match:
- The player with the lower handicap starts with the difference in scores.
Example:
Player A has a handicap of 2
Player B has a handicap of 7
Head start = 7 – 2 = 5
Player B starts on 5, Player A starts on 0.
